How to Make Exercise More Fun!

GET FIT IMA

GET FIT IMA

Exercising can sometimes feel like an exclusive club, accessible only to people who are already super fit. But no matter where you are on your fitness journey, you too can experience joy while moving your body, getting your heart rate up and working toward your health and wellness goals.

Working out can be whatever you want it to be—it doesn’t have to be restricted to the weight room or a boring treadmill. In fact, you can work out anywhere, at any time. (Yes, the park, your office stairwell and your kitchen all count.)

You know those people who work out every day? The ones who set their alarms for 5:30 a.m. so they can run six miles or do three HIIT circuits all before they even sit down at their desks? Do you ever wonder if they’re even having…fun?

Rediscover the Joy of Fitness: Fun and Enjoyable Exercise

Not everyone relishes the joys of hardcore athletic training. And if you don’t, there are plenty of ways to exercise that, wait for it…you may actually enjoy it. And it has already been established in the past here- that nutrition is 80% of the equation.

And so-this is what the Get Fit ima family- is all about- Showing you that you can “Exercise in ways where life doesn’t suck AND helps you reach your goals, all while doing a Mitzvah to Guard your Health”

Which is why we’re gonna focus on fun exercise that doesn’t feel like exercise and bring you the many ways you can put the fun back in fitness.

Now, before I list you all the many ways you can have fun as you enjoy getting fit and staying fit, the most important is to consider that any way you move is excellent. If that means, parking your car further in the parking lot to get your extra steps, or by taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or even standing up more often at a desk job.

And here is what I also want you to know….

Harnessing the Power of Exercise for a Healthier You

Exercise is a bonus. Exercise helps your heart get stronger, can help build muscle, usually gets you outside the house and absorbs vitamin D, and brings you a list of other health benefits. Also, any additional calories burned is a bonus!

Exercise can help us make fewer unhealthy food choices. Instead of “I earned this” you can start telling yourself: “If I’m going to exercise regularly, I might as well make it worth it by eating right too.”

Daily exercise is a constant reminder that we are leveling up our lives to the next level – that we should continue to make other good choices or we’re practically wasting our time.

18 Fun Ways to Exercise

With no further ado, here’s a list of 18 fun ways to keep it fun…

  1. Challenge Yourself: Wanting to keep exercise consistent, start with less than 5 minutes of fun like Tabata;  this is a 4-minute routine consisting of eight work/rest cycles.
  2. Dance: How long has it been since you had a dance to your favorite music? Let your hair down, draw the curtains, pump some beats, and get moving. It’ll only take about eight songs for you to get your 30 minutes in, so make sure you choose your best songs to get your heart beat up!
  3. Build Your Own Workout: If getting to a gym class, or paying for one, is putting you off working out, don’t worry – you can get the same benefits from a home workout. Try any or all of the workouts on here.
  4. Enjoy With Friends: Take a yoga class with friends and share a healthy dinner together afterward.
  5. Pump up the Volume: Music can be such a great motivator and mood lifter Choose your favorite hits, shuffle your music to keep things interesting, and change it up to keep you enjoying.
  6. Go Outside: Break out of the gym and go for a walk, hike, bike ride, or swim.
  7. Journal: Keep records of your workouts, this will boost your motivation, to keep going- to reach your goals.
  8. Join a Race: It doesn’t have to be the New York City Marathon, or the Tel Aviv Night Run (but, hey, why not?). Signing up for a race adds the fun of competition, plus the benefits of training with other people who have similar goals. Having a tangible goal to shoot for with a decisive end date is one way to stay motivated to pound the pavement, and enjoy yourself while you do it.
  9. Unleash Your Inner Child: Remember the days when you’d dangle on the monkey bars or push your bestie on the tire swing? Turns out those things are still fun today, plus they’re actually a great form of bodyweight training. You can turn any jungle gym routine into the ultimate power workout- especially as mothers call it fun fit quality time.
  10. Dress for Success: Having new gear, or workout clothes you enjoy, that are comfortable- make it more fun!
  11. Relax: No point in overdoing it: In order to keep in the spirit of inspiration, Your body needs recovery time between workouts in order to function efficiently. Include time for relaxing in your fun schedule.
  12. Celebrate Your Wins: By keeping to the SMART goals– try challenging yourself to incremental goals that you can assess in a shorter period.
  13. More Variety for More Fun: Change your routine frequently to avoid boredom and prevent the dreaded fitness plateau.
  14. Gamify Your Workouts: The process of taking something that already exists – such as a workout regimen – and integrating game mechanics into it with the intent to motivate, improve engagement, and increase loyalty.
  15. Small Victories: Create a reward system for motivation, and you’ll get into the fitness groove more quickly. Try a healthy treat like a post-workout smoothie.
  16. Start With a Warm-Up: Start your workout gradually by warming up with a little cardio-dance. This will signal your brain to secrete the endorphins that produce a natural “high.”
  17. Get Professional Help: Consider working out with a pro who can build a fun routine to suit your needs.
  18. Get Mental: Psych yourself up by creating an empowering mantra like “I can do this.”- what we say in each workout. Repeat this phrase in your mind as you exercise — especially when the going gets rough.

Gratitude in Motion

Be thankful that you can exercise. Our fitness is more than just our physical well-being, it also contributes greatly to our spiritual, emotional and mental well-being. Studies show that being grateful helps boost your overall mood- add exercise to the mix of gratitude, where you’re always in a happy mood, with amazing positive energy and productivity. Now that’s what a self-fulfilled happy life is all about!
